Disney Promises To Donate $5 Million To Social Justice Nonprofits

Disney has pledged to donate $5 million dollars in the wake of worldwide protests that were sparked after the murder of George Floyd.

The company released a statement today, revealing that $2 million of that donation will go to the NAACP “to further their longstanding work promoting social justice by eliminating disparities and racial discrimination through their advocacy and education programs.”

Disney has also pledged to match employee donations to organizations through the Disney Employee Matching Gifts program.

“The killing of George Floyd has forced our nation to once again confront the long history of injustice that black people in America have suffered, and it is critical that we stand together, speak out, and do everything in our power to ensure that acts of racism and violence are never tolerated,” Disney CEO Bob Chapek said in a statement.

“This $5 million pledge will continue to support the efforts of nonprofit organizations such as the NAACP that have worked tirelessly to ensure equality and justice.”

Disney took to social media in the days before, issuing a statement and standing by the Black Lives Matter movement.

“We stand against racism,” the statement read. “We stand for inclusion. We stand with our fellow Black employees, storytellers, creators and the entire Black community. We must unite and speak out.”
