Inspiring celebrity achievers: 2019 edition

Some celebrities chose to finish their education first before starting a showbiz career. However, there are also a number who decided to continue studying while working at the same time.  These stars serve as an inspiration, not just to their colleagues but also to their fans, that long hours at work are not a hindrance to excel in academics.  Here is a look at some celebrity achievers this year: JODI STA. MARIA  Jodi Sta. Maria, 36, is taking up Bachelor of Science in Psychology at Southville International School and Colleges — and that’s on top of her juggling roles on the small and big screen. Just recently, Sta. Maria finished the first semester of the current academic year with a GPA of 3.818, qualifying her as a Dean’s Lister.  MATTEO GUIDICELLI  Matteo Guidicelli recently joined the Philippine Army. In his social media posts, the 29-year-old tagged ARESCOM, or Army Reserve Command. Prior to his entry as Army reservist, Guidicelli also joined the Philippine Coast Guard Auxiliary in March alongside celebrities Erwan Heussaff and Nico Bolzico. ALEC DUÑGO  Seven years after a life-altering stint as a “Pinoy Big Brother” housemate, Alec Duñgo marked a new milestone as he finally turned his childhood dream of becoming a doctor into a reality. Duñgo, a pharmacist, finished medical school at the University of Santo Tomas with honors — cum laude and meritissimus — this month. ARNELL IGNACIO  Facebook: Mang Arnell  For TV host and comedian Arnell Ignacio, finally graduating from college at age 55 is “God’s perfect timing.” He now holds a bachelor’s degree in Political Science, specializing in local government administration. Until February, Ignacio had been a deputy executive director of the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration — a role he had to juggle with studies for a year. YASMIEN KURDI  Actress Yasmien Kurdi earned a degree in Political Science from Arellano University. But she’s not like any ordinary graduate. Beaming with pride on her graduation day, Kurdi proudly wore the medal she received from the university for finishing magna cum laude.
