Larry King is finally opening up about his shocking divorce from his wife of 26 years, Shawn King, citing the age gap and her religion as the issues that led to their demise.
King, 86, was the one to pull the plug on his marriage and filed for divorce five months ago in August 2019.
“The age difference eventually takes its toll,” he told People of his August 2019 divorce. “Also my wife is a very religious Mormon, and I’m an agnostic atheist, so that causes little problems.”
He added, “We overcame a lot, but it just hit a point where we didn’t get along.”
As RadarOnline.com previously reported insider sources revealed that King’s children supported the divorce while Shawn was “blindsided.”
A source close to the family told Radar the TV star’s kids were not close to his 59-year-old wife, and just pray the ailing King is able to live his final days without her.
“Let’s just hope he gets divorced before he dies,” said the insider about the separation four months after the host’s sudden heart surgery. “Everyone will be very happy if he actually leaves her and comes through this alive.”
King suffered a near-fatal stroke earlier last year — in May.
“It’s been a rough year,” King added, just weeks after heart surgery to place a stent. “And I don’t have any idea of what 2020 is going to be like. But I can still work and I can watch my kids grow up. I feel positive — and hopeful.”
He previously filed for divorce from his wife in 2010, but withdrew the petition after the pair reconciled.
Court documents obtained by Radar reveal the Kings separated on June 6, 2019, and have yet to split up their property and assets.
“I have less of a fear of dying now,” the father of five admitted. “I’m 86 and it is what it is. I just want to keep working until the end. I’d like to die at work — I’ll retire right there!”
