He has a name! Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have announced the name of their baby boy, RadarOnline.com has learned.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex announced their royal son’s name on their verified Instagram account on Wednesday, May 8, just hours after debuting their first child to the world.
“The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are pleased to announce they have named their first born child: Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor,” the caption read. “This afternoon Their Royal Highnesses introduced Her Majesty The Queen to her eighth great-grandchild at Windsor Castle. The Duke of Edinburgh and The Duchess’ mother were also present for this special occasion.”
As RadarOnline.com readers know, Archie was born on May 6, 2019 at 5:26 a.m. The new addition to the royal family weighed 7 lbs. 3 oz.
It appears Prince Harry and Meghan put in a lot of thought to their son’s name, including a nod to Harry’s late mother, Princess Diana. Archie was likely named after Diana’s Scottish ancestor, Archibald Campbell, 9th Earl of Argyll. Additionally, the name Harrison means “son of Harry.”
Mountbatten is also reportedly the surname Prince Phillip adopted when he became a British citizen ahead of his engagement to Queen Elizabeth II.
Ahead of the name announcement, Meghan and Prince Harry introduced their son to the world in the morning of May 8 within the St. George’s Hall at Windsor Castle. The happy parents gushed about their two-day old newborn in a video.
“It’s magic!” Meghan told a reporter as she gazed into her first child’s eyes. “I have the two best guys in the world so I’m really happy.”
Prince Harry, who cradled Archie in his arms, was careful to not give viewers too much of a glimpse! Archie was covered in a white blanket and a white cap.
“It’s great. It’s only been two and a half, three days, but we’re just so thrilled to have our own little bundle of joy and we get to spend some precious time with him as he slowly starts to grow up!” Harry said.
