There’s a new Gilderoy Lockhart in season two of Harry Potter.

Nicholas Hoult was originally confirmed for the role earlier in August

Earlier this month, it was announced that Nicholas Hoult would portray the role of the Hogwarts professor in season two of the series, based on Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets.

Kenneth Branagh portrayed the villainous character in the movie adaptation back in 2002. In the wizarding world, he was best known as an author on books about dark creatures and he becomes the Professor of Defense Against the Dark Arts at Hogwarts. Lockhart does not last long in the role, and is not featured in any of the other books, apart from a brief appearance in Order of the Phoenix, as a patient at St. Mungo’s Hospital.

Nicholas Hoult dropped out and Kit Harington will now star instead

However, reports emerged on Monday (August 24) that Nicholas had to exit the role due to scheduling conflicts, Variety shared.

Kit Harington is apparently taking over! Kit is no stranger to this role, as he voiced the character for the audiobooks.

This is the second major recasting for season two of Harry Potter.
