Beloved Jurassic Park actor Sam Neill tragically died at the age of 78 on Monday (July 13), and he shared one of the final public photos of himself just one month before his death.

“It is with immense sadness that the whanau [family] of Sam Neill share the news of his passing on Monday 13th July, in Sydney Australia. Sam was surrounded by family and passed with the dignity that has characterised his whole life. The loss was sudden and unexpected but blessed by the fact that Sam remained cancer free. They would like to express their deepest gratitude to the staff at St Vincent’s Private Hospital for their incredible care. More details will be shared later, but for now, on behalf of the family, we ask that you respect their privacy as they navigate this immeasurable loss,” his family confirmed on Instagram.

He was in attendance at the 2026 Australian Recording Industry Association (ARIA) Hall of Fame Awards on June 11, 2026 in Sydney, Australia.

Sam posted a selfie of him with Australian singer and actress Kate Ceberano, who was honored that evening.

This appears to be his final photo that he shared of himself ahead of his passing.

He captioned the slideshow of photos with, “ARIA HALL of FAME awards ! Great night in Sydney. Four women i have idolised for decades were honoured . JENNY MORRIS , KATE CEBERANO , and VIKA and LINDA BULL. Jenny was inducted the Hall by no less than our former NZ PM , JACINDA ARDERN . Another hero.”

Back in April, Sam revealed that he was cancer-free after undergoing a special treatment. He was diagnosed with stage three blood cancer in March 2022.

Our thoughts and condolences go out to Sam Neill‘s family and friends during this difficult time. RIP.
