Why did DWTS pair up two woman for season 35?

The show’s executive producer Conrad Green shared his insight into the same sex pairing this season.

He told The Wrap, “Sarah Jane is bi[sexual], and she just wanted to have a female partner. It was just something about the dynamic of those two together … We kept coming back to [them] and going, those two, they look good.”

“And Hailey’s totally up for it,” he shared.

What has Sarah Jane Nader shared about her sexuality in the past?

On Love Thy Nader, Sarah Jane brought home a woman, Eliana, for Easter to meet her family. She spoke to Variety about the significance of this moment.

It was a huge moment for me because we’ve never talked about my sexuality. I’m very close to my extended family, and I love them, but it has always been sort of something that I felt like was just ignored and even danced around. No one would want to know about my dating life because they would be scared that it would come up. When I had a girlfriend that I loved very much before Eliana, I was too scared to bring her home. I didn’t want to put her under the pressure of experiencing homophobia.

Bringing Eliana was like dipping a toe in the water of, ‘I can do this. Maybe nobody will ask what the nature of our relationship is. Maybe they’ll say things behind my back.’ I didn’t know. But I didn’t care, because she’s experiencing Louisiana, and that was fun for me. It lifted this idea that it was going to be such a big deal. Then I brought her home, and nobody talked about it. It wasn’t a big deal.

She also spoke about resonating with queer viewers during the run of their reality TV show.

“A few people have messaged me saying that they have experienced homophobia in their family or have not felt comfortable to come out, and then they watched the show and felt comfortable enough to come out. That is insane to me. To be a part of anyone’s experience, I feel honored, and just honored to have a platform to be authentically myself. To see that effect makes me want to be more open about more ****,” she told Elite Daily.

Who else is competing in DWTS season 35?
